Chalk it Up to Exhaustion

The theme of this assignment was “abstract.” We were supposed to communicate information about an object, including it’s texture and shape, without revealing the entire object. The final image was to be black and white. Creating effective shadows was critical for this assignment.

And that is why, foolishly, I chose chalk. A tiny, normal size pieces of chalk (why I didn’t think of using jumbo chalk, I don’t know.) Which really reflects pretty much all the light that’s cast on it, and refuses to create shadows. Combine that with the fact that I shot this literally immediately upon my return from Leadership Retreat (where I got a collective total of 7 hours of sleep over two nights), and it made for an interesting time in the studio.
